Question about 12V BatteryMy 2023 Escape PHEV custom order was built in February 2023 & delivered June 30 2023. My odometer at August 16 2024 is around 3600km. I use the supplied Level 1 charge cable on a dedicated 15 amp circuit. Until recently I used EV Now mode, doing an overnight charge if more than a few km have been driven since last charge.
Recently I have frequently experienced low 12 volt battery symptoms, with a blank screen until a few minutes after driving, and error messages displayed.
I found out that:
The 12 volt battery does not receive any charge using Level 1
About 20 km driving is needed to put any charge into the 12 volt battery using EV Now mode
As a result I have changed my EV Mode to Auto EV, but since I prefer to use EV Now mode I am considering charging the 12 volt battery using a smart charger. I need to determine the best method to connect the charger to it. Two options are:
Add a cable from the 12 volt battery with a recessed female connector terminating in a luggage area recessed panel opening
or
If a suitable direct connection to the 12 volt battery can be located under the hood, add a similar terminating connector at a suitable location.
As an after-thought, I wonder what care was given to the 12 volt batteries in completed vehicles from their completion, during storage, until they were released for shipping after final software updating.Sat, 17 Aug 2024 02:28:15 +0000
