Lincoln - The Road AheadAs someone with a comms degree, I'm appalled at the state of modern advertising. I've noticed ads these days tend to fall into two groups, either something random, off the wall that makes no real effort to tie into the product. There's this T-Mobile ad where it's just two guys acting out a sound effect and vibration side by side. Ads that just make you throw your hand up and say "This ties into your product how?". Then you have the ads that try to be self aware "We know this is an ad, and you don't like ads, so we'll be quick". That kind of trash.
The best ads tie into a message about the product, while telling a funny story. Like for instance, if someone asked me to do a truck ad, I'd theme it around one of the biggest selling points of trucks, their reliability.
You could do something really fun with that, like a Halloween ad parody of horror films where someone is in the middle of nowhere, and nothing is working. The phone has no signal, the knob comes off the door when they try to open it to get away, etc. Then the ad ends with them getting in the truck and driving away while the caption it's nice when things just work comes on screen. Something creative and fun, but it ties into the product. Modern ad creators don't seem to understand this. They're either random as hell, or cynical.Mon, 17 Jun 2024 04:53:47 +0000
