Normally (looking at it from someone in my state) areas that have mass transit are built up and to live close to NYC already costs big money. If you live further away, you have two options to take to NYC-train or bus. Both can be expensive, but if you have a local job, it might not pay as much, but nor are you on a bus/train for 4 hours a day getting to NYC.
