I have a 2003 Windstar and I've been experiencing this problem for quite a while now.
The reverse lights light on from the moment I unlock the doors until about 20 min after I lock the doors.
I have replaced the Neutral Safety Switch believing this was the cause of the problem but I didn't have luck.
No matter which gear it's in, the reverse lights are on as well as the backing up sensor.
